EUeInvoicing

EUeInvoicing is an innovation project aiming to adapt the Catalonia electronic invoicing ecosystem to the new European Union standard; EN 16931, in order to have common electronic invoicing rules in Europe, and to facilitate the massive use of electronic invoicing within the Catalan public and private sector.

EUeInvoicing solutions will allow the main public and private sector entities that issue and receive invoices in Catalonia to update and adapt their existing eInvoicing systems.

What is eInvoicing?

Electronic invoicing, also called eInvocing, is the exchange of an electronic invoice document between a supplier and a buyer. In the Catalonia / Spain B2G context, an electronic invoice (eInvoice) is an invoice that has been issued, transmitted and received in a structured electronic format, which allows its automatic and electronic processing.

Paper invoices or any other type of digital images, PDFs or other digital forms of invoices remove the physical element but still require the data to be manually read and entered into the system. On the other hand, eInvoices contain data from the supplier in a machine-readable format that can be imported into the buyer’s Account Payable (AP) system without requiring manual entering.

eInvoicing Benefits

Mass adoption of electronic invoicing within the EU leads to significant economic benefits and an increase of Europe’s business competitiveness. Replacing paper invoices with eInvoices has benefits for both public sector entities and suppliers.

Benefits for public entities
  • Reduced data error by removing manual entry.
  • Quicker and cheaper processing as information can be fed directly into paying and accounting systems.
  • Increased control over cash flow and transparency upon eInvoice status information.
  • Reduced material cost and environmental impact by removing delivery and print and paper costs.
Benefits for suppliers
  • Reduced printing, mailing costs and environmental impact.
  • On-time payments with a speedier invoice processing.
  • Improved ability to forecast thanks to having access to real-time data around submitted invoices.
